I reckon all the topics are related. Anyone interested in any of the radical changes currently facing society will eventually be interested in the other topics, too (whether about public health, environmental crises, energy, freedom of speech, migration, etc.
You’re more likely to win new readers by introducing something new than to alienate new ones. Besides, often such topics are interrelated.
That said, know what you do best and keep your focus there.
Thanks for your feedback. I also think that there’s a confluence of interests, though the reason for splitting out the Irish Hate Speech content was actually two fold:
1. Most of my subscribers that have geolocation information are not in Ireland
2. I wanted the Irish politicians to actually be aware of the content, and the COVID-19 content may cause them to dismiss all my content, and avoid engaging with how they’re Turkeys voting for Christmas
For what it’s worth, because of the common history of the Irish legal system and the US legal system, Ireland ends up being the system multinationals prefer to have their European HQs for data protection etc regulators… thus the Irish laws will affect everyone in Europe and potentially the world, however it’s a free world, people can and should read what they want to
I miss a lot of stuff that I am interested in due to time and personal issues. I started following you during Covid but view all the current crises
as related (with the attack on the freedom, health and livelihoods of ordinary people as the common thread) and so it seems natural to me that you or anyone else trying to contribute to the debate would branch out to new topics. I don't see any harm in mixing different topics on the same Stack as many Substackers do that and I doubt it affects their following. I also personally appreciate notifications because if I see from the title that the post interests me I will read it. Otherwise I might never see it. But maybe that's just me. Slán!
Yeah it only got 5 subscribers despite my having made a post here to advertise it. I didn’t want to annoy everyone by importing the subscriber list as I recognise that not everyone is interested in the Irish Hate Speech law they’re back again trying to push in… but for the Climate stuff I want to do right by the majority, hence polls!
